Mason Jar Series

Dreams of the Broken Soul
(Prequel to the Mason Jar Series)

Before there was a family, there was a dream.

What do you do when love won’t heal scars?

Before there was the family who thrived on love, loyalty, and the laws of the land, there were Dreams of a Broken Soul. Nineteen-year-old MaryAnne Reed suffered brutal physical abuse as a child at the hands of the man she should’ve been able to trust the most. Her miraculous survival inspired her to become a nurse. When her ex-con father along with a handsome and annoyingly persistent cop unexpectedly reappear in her life, her safety and the dream of a career are threatened.

The day 15-year-old Markus Mason helped to rescue a 12-year-old girl from her abusive dad, he knew he’d follow in his police officer father’s footsteps. Seven years later, he encounters that girl as a gorgeous young woman. No matter how hard he tries, MaryAnne won’t let him rescue her again, this time from her fear of vulnerability. That’s not all Markus has to worry about. Police work earns him enemies he can’t shake. Success in his quest to win MaryAnne’s heart and find the person trying to destroy their lives hinges on locating the threats lurking in the shadows.

Beware of the Smiling Eyes
The Rescue Part I

Can love ever be wrong?

Inspired by real events, Beware of the Smiling Eyes chronicles the story of epic enemies becoming reluctant partners to rescue a beloved grandfather and mentor stricken by Alzheimer’s and scammed by a geriatric gold-digger. Tyler Mason is a 20-year-old deaf college student who would rather stand in oncoming traffic than work with Cassie Conway, the 19-year-old widow who helped her husband bully him for years. Tyler’s mentor, Cassie’s Grandpa, can’t wait for their conflicts to be resolved. The greedy granny kidnaps the elderly man and secretly moves him to a rundown trailer park—where an accidental death insurance policy awaits.

Every crime fighter needs a sidekick and the frenemies have two: a sister, who’s a shoulder angel with matchmaking skills, and a kamikaze cousin, who flies them from one disaster to the next. They struggle to stay one step ahead of criminals and Cassie’s scheming in-laws who want custody of her two-year-old son. Now, the only questions are: what else can go wrong, and will Cassie’s in-laws’ plot to destroy her ruin everything?

Surrender is NOT an Option
The Rescue Part II

How do you fight for a lost cause?

In this action-packed sequel, Surrender is NOT an Option, is the rallying cry for the one-time frenemies striving to rescue an elderly loved one. Their secret surveillance techniques are not enough, prompting more trips to Louisiana. Cassie struggles to deal with her unwanted feelings for Tyler, an unjust legal system, and dangerous criminals, all while she attempts to protect her young son from her cunning in-laws whose threats are edging her closer to attempting a reckless scheme that could get her killed.

Tyler’s relationship problems escalate when his efforts to catch Cassie in lies turn the other women in his life against him—all except his girlfriend who pops the question to him. Before he can answer her, he’s forced to do undercover work with his attractive childhood nemesis. Tyler becomes so infatuated with uncovering Cassie’s deceptions, that he misses the biggest secret of all.

Three Reluctant Promises
The Abduction Part I

(On Amazon in hardback and ebook known as Book 1)

Whoever heard of a kidnapper with a sense of honor?

Illegal immigrant Tommy Ramirez made three reluctant promises to a dying woman. Kidnapping a cop’s daughter is the only way he can keep them. College student, Ashten Mason, is a stranger to trouble until a gorgeous guy with a gun jumps into her car and demands help. Soon embroiled in one dangerous situation after another, they are forced to rely on one another—an idea that Ashten believes is an oxymoron, and one that drives Tommy crazy.

Have you ever wondered how authors come up with these intriguing descriptions?

For me, it’s hours and hours of brainstorming. After a while, my brain gets a little flooded and I need a second opinion. The description above was a result of my editor and I brainstorming while sitting on the floor in her living room. The following is what I brought to the table, eh, her floor.

After a car crash leaves him and his sisters orphaned, Tommy Ramirez, an illegal immigrant, takes all kinds of odd jobs to make ends meet. A bad day gets worse when Tommy discovers he’s transporting kidnapped girls in the back of his semi-truck. A victim’s mother enlists his help to free the girls and she is mortally wounded in the attempt. Knowing death is imminent, she begs Tommy to make her three promises: save her daughter from the human traffickers, retrieve a data stick that has incriminating evidence on it, and deliver the evidence to the police. Dodging death, deportation, and struggling with a rare form of dyslexia, Tommy knows he can’t do it alone. When he makes a desperate grab for help—literally—Ashten Mason, a police officer’s 18-year-old daughter, doesn’t come willingly.

Ashten Mason just celebrated her 18th birthday, and started her junior year in college. A stranger to trouble, she doesn’t know what to think when a huge, gorgeous guy with a gun jumps into her car and demands help. Bullets fly and the giant keeps her safe during a rounds-bursting-through-the-windshield high-speed chase. Ashten realizes he’s in more trouble than she is, but relying on him to protect her is the ultimate oxymoron.

Kierstin Marquet’s novel, Three Reluctant Promises, moves so fast it should come with seat belts. Yet, woven into each intense thrill is a wonderful story of trust and friendship that stays with the reader long after they finish. This is a great story!

– Gregg Luke, five-time Whitney Award finalist.

I really enjoyed this book for many reasons. So refreshing to see a strong, smart heroine. No, she doesn’t have super powers, she’s not a black belt in karate, but she’s sharp and uses her wits (and anything else around) and she never gives up. Also, she doesn’t start hyperventilating just because a handsome man looks at her (so tired of those books that make women out to be hormone addled twits). It was also a fun read to see it from both the heroine and the hero’s perspective. The book is fast paced and keeps you on the edge of your seat (with really awesome and mysterious bad guys) with nefarious plots aplenty. Looking forward to the next one to come out as I can’t wait to find out what happens to these characters.

Three Stupid Lies
The Abduction Part II

(On Amazon in hardback and ebook known as Book 2)

How could trying to do the right thing turn out so wrong?

In Three Reluctant Promises’ stunning sequel, Ashten Mason is determined to help her magazine-cover-handsome kidnapper. Tommy Ramirez might’ve risked his life to save hers, but lying to her police officer father and the FBI about their relationship turns out to be the stupidest thing Ashten has ever done. Now, the FBI think she’s an accomplice to murder, the real killers see her as bait for Tommy, and her dad thinks she has Stockholm Syndrome. If her dad finds out her secrets—including how deep her feelings for the felon really are—Tommy might be safer seeking sanctuary with the hit men trying to kill him.

Staying alive is a minute-by-minute challenge Tommy is seconds away from losing. Not sure if a raging flood or hit men working for a powerful criminal syndicate will take him out, Tommy must dig deep to find the strength to survive. Crawling through hell to accomplish that and keeping the promises he made to a dying woman turns out to be easy compared to protecting the cop’s daughter he can’t get out of his mind.

The editor bought Lies after having only read the first chapter. I worked 12-17 hours for two months to get it done in seven months!

Three Strikes and You’re Out
The Organization Part I

What do you do when criminal syndicates are too big to destroy?

Tentatively named: Three Strikes and You’re Out. There is no blurb for this one yet, but once you read Cycles of Hope and Desperation, you will understand why I HAD to do Zayne’s story. He was such a fun character to create, I couldn’t help it. This was also an amazing way to lead into the continuing efforts to fight crime and stop the bad guys that survived the firefight in Three Stupid Lies.

Destroying Angel
The Organization Part II

How do you fight impossible odds?

Tentatively named: Destroying Angel. This one doesn’t have a blurb yet either, but in Surrender is NOT an Option, we left Tyler and Cassie with an accusation of murder hanging over Cassie’s head, so we’ve got to take care of that ASAP.

Critical Mistakes

What do you do when love grows cold?

In Critical Mistakes, desperate times call for destructive measures. After making a deal with a son of the devil, financially strapped MaKenzie Randall is forced to reunite with Brandon Mason, an ex-boyfriend she’d rather see dead. Too bad no one warned her to be careful what she wished for.
